Hidden Ruins

With our trip to the Yucatan only a few days away, I'm already starting to feel sad that it's only a 4 day trip. But this was supposed to just be a quick trip to get away from the wet, cold Pacific Northwest weather so we don't go stir crazy and die from cabin fever. Four days is enough. That's my mantra.

One of the things we did today was we went to REI and Target. We got a Patagonia hip bag. Our goal is to put passports and hotel keys and the rental car keys inside ziplocs and put them in the hip bag while we're snorkeling so they don't get lost or stolen. We also bought an underwater camera for the snorkeling trip. I know it won't be great photos but something is better than nothing, and we have our phones for regular pictures. I may need to go to the storage unit and find my one-shot camera my mom got me last year, too.

Our first outing is a day trip to 3 things: the Tulum Ruins, bay snorkeling, and a cenote snorkeling swim at Cenote Caracol. The Caracol cenote is deep underground, so I'm a tad nervous. It's one thing to know to expect fish and eels in the water, it's another thing entirely to do it where it's mostly dark!

I'm going to swim in that cenote if it's the last thing I do!

For the second day, I've decided I want to drive to Valladolid and visit the hidden ruins there. The ruins are mostly hidden and although they've been mapped, they haven't really been explored much. This is my idea of a ton of fun! I'll write more about Ek Balam in another post.

Here we come, Tulum!

Switzerland or bust!

My loving spouse decided he didn't want to travel next year, due to the political chaos in the US as well as in Gaza and pretty much eve...
